Sweetwater Texas Theatre Acquisition & Renovation
This is the Texas Theater as it looked in 1939. You can tell by the movie being shown, The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt starring Rita Hayworth and all for $0.15. Back then it had already been transformed from a vaudeville stage to be able to show talkies. Some live performances were still held but most of the larger acts were choosing the municipal auditorium to perform. Through the years the "Texas" became the main source for downtown entertainment as it continued to show the latest movies and serve the best popcorn around. In recent years the theatre fell on hard times as the shift to movie rentals and larger, mall-type, multi-screen theaters became the norm. The doors were finally closed as the century turned and the theatre, like so many other structures, was left to slowly fade away....until now.
